<bio>
I teach graduate courses for the online Master of Public Health - Health Education and Promotion (HEP MPH) program and conduct research that contribute to and advance the field of health geography.

BACKGROUND

I am an Assistant Professor of Health Promotion in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science. I received my PhD in Public Policy from George Mason University. Prior to joining USU, I have taught undergraduate-, master-, and doctoral-level courses in statistics, spatial health modeling, and population sciences delivered via different formats (traditional classroom, online, and hybrid courses). I also have consulting experience in the areas of economic and health research and have worked as a health/gender policy analyst at the World Bank and the Futures Group International, Washington DC. I belong to the American Public Health Association (APHA) and American Association of Geographers (AAG).

TEACHING INTERESTS

Biostatistics; Research Methods

GIS and Spatial Analysis

Health Disparities; Health Behavior Theories; Social Determinants of Health

Program Planning and Evaluation

Global Health

RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research at the intersection of health and geography is focused on examining the role of place (culture) and space (geography) as social determinants of health with a particular focus on the elderly. My current research is centered on analyzing geographic disparities in population aging (age-dependency, age segregation) and place-based variations in older adult health outcomes (older adult falls, elderly mortality).

Research Interests

Geographic Disparities in Health

Geographic Information Systems (GIS)/Spatial Applications in Health
