About the Complex Support Needs Emphasis
The complex support needs degree prepares teachers to work with students (kindergarten through 12) with low incidence intellectual and physical disabilities such as severe intellectual disabilities, autism, traumatic and acquired brain injury, and multiple disabilities. Complex Support Needs teachers typically teach academic, functional and life skills.
Courses address characteristics of disabilities, life skills, inclusion of students in general education, behavioral interventions, assessment, effective instruction, consulting with parents and teachers, assistive technology, curriculum content, and policies and procedures.

Students are admitted to Utah State University as a pre-special education major and must meet certain course and test requirements to be admitted to the special education major. Applications to the major are due each spring by February 1st.
