Utah State University offers one associate level nursing program with two degree options: the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) and the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN). Both options share the same admission requirements, pre-requisites, nursing curriculum, and core nursing courses. The ASN option requires all general education coursework. Graduates of both the AAS and ASN programs are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN licensure examination.
This four-semester associate of applied science degree program teaches students how to coordinate the care of patients in a variety of healthcare settings, administer medications and treatments, instruct patients, and promote health. Students enrolled in the associate of applied science program have a curriculum of study that includes medical-surgical, mental health, and family health nursing, pharmacology, pathophysiology principles and concepts, professional attributes, and care competencies and skills. Upon passing, graduates can qualify for positions as entry-level registered nurses (RNs).
