Admission & Registration

1st Bachelor's in Communicative Disorders

Admission to Online 1st Bachelor's Program

Grade and Credit Conditions

  • Admission to the SHS major typically occurs at the beginning of the junior year (approximately 60 credits).
  • Students admitted to the university with less than 60 credits can be admitted to the SHS Pre-Program.

To graduate with a Bachelor's in Speech and Hearing Sciences, a GPA of at least 3.0 is required across the Major section of a student's plan of study in DegreeWorks. In addition, SHS course grades must be a C or better and only three SHS course repeats are allowed.

A bachelor's degree in SHS prepares students for graduate education in speech-language pathology, audiology, and deaf education. Acceptance into graduate programs is competitive, based on GPA in combination with other indicators of achievement. In addition, some graduate programs do not accept undergraduate coursework grades below B-. The bachelor's degree in SHS also prepares students to be educational speech-language pathology assistants. Strong knowledge and skills are also important for this type of position. Thus, students planning on careers in this field should honestly evaluate their program potential and progress toward a strong GPA and individual course grades.
