If Not Current, Complete a Background Check

You will need to have a background check completed prior to your application for your Educator License. Background checks are valid for a period of five years before licensure.

If you hold a current teaching license, you will not have to complete another background check. We cannot accept copies of background checks done for a school district or other employment. To apply for a background check, go to USIMS and sign in or sign up: usims.schools.utah.gov

Mark USU as your Utah Teacher Education Program in USIMS


USIMS Personal Information

  • In USIMS, go to Personal Information, and mark "Utah State University" as your Utah Teacher Education Program
    • Select Personal Information from the Task List
    • Select that you are enrolled in a Teacher Education Program, and select the University that you are attending and press the Save Button.
  • Screenshot the bottom of the page in Personal Information section to show you have marked USU as your Utah Teacher Education Program.

Apply to Program


  eGrad Application- Apply Here

Navigation: Click "Submit New Form", then "Teacher Education & Leadership", then "Elementary/Early Childhood Program Application". Mark the Term you will be starting ELED program courses, then click "Start Form". 
Upload the following documents into your eGrad application:

  • Signed Advisor Approval Form
  • Screenshot of ELED/ECED Email Listserv confirmation
  • Screenshot of FBI/BCI Teacher Background Check Clearance Date in USIMS
  • Screenshot of marking "Utah State University" as your Utah Teacher Education Program 
  • Click "UPLOAD" for each document AFTER you upload them.
  • Click "Submit"

  • Deadline for Spring Admission: October 10th
  • Deadlines for Fall Admission: March 18th & May 10th
